**In the pursuit of a better public image, several brands have decided to join the Fur Free Alliance. External pressures have pushed many companies in this direction, but some brands have chosen not to compromise their collections simply for the sake of a PR move.**
Alongside Prada, which has resisted pressures and chosen to continue using natural fur, Chanel also stands. However, numerous articles in the press and on social media claim that Chanel has abandoned natural fur. What’s the truth? Chanel has indeed ceased using products made from snake, crocodile, and other exotic skins. Activists have long targeted materials sourced from exotic animals, arguing that many of these sources are illegal and threaten wild animal populations.
One of the reasons Chanel has moved away from these materials is precisely the difficulty in sourcing them responsibly. “We are continuously renewing our value chain to ensure integrity and that we can always disclose the source of the raw materials used,” the company stated. “In this context, it has become increasingly difficult to source exotic skins that meet our ethical standards.”
However, the natural fur industry is becoming more transparent, thanks to certification programs under the FurMark initiative. For this reason, Chanel did not need to give up natural fur.
