Custom Fur Coats

We create custom, made-to-measure and bespoke fur coats in our atelier in Bucharest. You can start from a model in the store and we will customise it to your measurements, or we can design a unique piece from scratch, with 2–4 fittings and dedicated pelt selection. We work with mink, fox, lynx (bobcat) and Canadian lynx, Russian sable, Canadian sable, baum marten, chinchilla and other premium types.

The head of Casa de blanuri MG, Daniel Margarit, is the only expert in Romania accredited by the International Fur Federation, with over 35 years of experience and a family tradition dating back to 1939.

How we work (common process)

  1. Consultation – we discuss your wishes: cut, volume, length and where you plan to wear the coat.
  2. Material selection – together we choose the type of fur, pattern, pelt layout and possible combinations.
  3. Measurements and sketch – we define the details: collar/hood, sleeves, closures, lining, accessories.
  4. Prototype/Fitting – for bespoke: textile prototype (mock-up) and 2–4 fittings; for MTM/custom: 1–2 fittings (usually without mock-up).
  5. Execution – cutting, assembling, fine stitching, stretching on the board, shaping, mounting and Fur SPA treatment where applicable.
  6. Finishing – lining, closure system, and checks for comfort and mobility.
  7. Delivery – final fitting, packaging and care/storage instructions.

Transparency: before we start, you receive a written quote with price and estimated timeframe. Any change during fittings is discussed and agreed in advance.

Indicative prices and timeframes

The coats are handcrafted to high standards. The price depends on the type of fur, quantity required, pattern complexity and number of fittings.

  • Custom (on standard model) – quote based on configuration; typical timeframe 15–60 days* (if the material is in stock).
  • Made to measure – quote based on measurements/customisation; 1–2 fittings; typical timeframe 20–60 days*; possible additional cost.
  • Bespoke – unique project, 2–4 fittings; typical timeframe 30–60 days*; + design/pattern-making fee 299–599 EUR.

* For special colours that require dyeing (when there are no pre-dyed materials in stock), dyeing alone can take up to 30 days. The final timeframe also depends on the atelier’s workload.

For an accurate estimate, book a consultation in the showroom. If you are coming from another city, we start with an audio/video call and then set a realistic schedule for visits/fittings.

In-house atelier in Bucharest • Dedicated pelt selection • Fittings in showroom • Discreet stitching • Delivery within the agreed timeframe

Custom (on standard model)

You start from an existing model in the store and we adapt it to your colour, length and measurements. You can personalise the material combination, lining and closure system. This is the fastest option and keeps the spirit of the original model; we can adapt sleeves/collar/hood without extra cost when it suits the design.

  • Fast and safe customisation
  • 1 fitting (optional, recommended)
  • Shorter timeframe; efficient budget

Made to measure

The model follows your exact measurements and proportions, adjusting an existing pattern for a correct fit (bust, hips, shoulders, athletic build, etc.). You choose the material, colour, sleeves, collar/hood, lining and closures. Requires 1–2 fittings for fine adjustments; may involve an additional cost.

  • Perfect fit for your body
  • Extensive customisation
  • Medium timeframe; good cost control

Bespoke (from scratch)

We design a one-of-a-kind coat, starting from a sketch/photo/inspiration. We build a textile prototype (mock-up) and then transfer it to fur. This includes 2–4 fittings and dedicated pelt selection (pattern, density, drape).

  • Full design freedom
  • Top execution, premium finishes
  • Unique piece; longer timeframe

Typical styles and cuts

  • Straight – classic, highlights the texture; versatile for layering.
  • A-line – slightly flared, fluid, more comfort in movement.
  • Fitted – defines the waist; requires balance at shoulders/bust.
  • Cropped – visually shortens; focus on sleeves and edge finishing.
  • Flared (clos) – wide hem, elegant, statement-making.
  • Details – slits, pockets, stand-up/tailored (English) or shawl collars, various hood shapes, trims/ornaments in other types of fur, closures (invisible clips, magnets, decorative buttons, zip, decorative clasps), fur/leather inserts.

Materials and characteristics

Mink – very versatile and resistant; suitable for almost any cut; can be restyled 2–3 times over 25–30 years if tanning was done correctly.

Fox – high volume and very warm; suitable for certain silhouettes and cuts; when correctly balanced, it offers a glamorous look.

Lynx – animal-print effect; requires careful matching of the natural pattern; fine, light and resistant to wear.

Sable – very fine and precious; we work with a specialised craftsman; attention is needed to differentiate it from baum marten/Canadian sable.

Chinchilla – extremely delicate; requires rigorous pelt selection and specialised execution; non-compliant pieces can tear and are difficult to repair.

The choice of material and model is made together, based on your personal style and lifestyle.

Brief case studies

Bespoke, classic mink – adaptation from a sable reference to mink; textile prototype, 3 fittings; shoulder/waist adjustments; result: timeless elegance.

Bespoke, white mink “Ioana’s dream” – sketch made together with the client; 2 mock-up fittings + 2 final fittings; fitted cut with diagonal waist; result true to the original vision.

Made to measure, fox – balanced volume for a challenging silhouette; 3 fittings (mock-up + adjustments); result: fluid, correct “air”.

Custom on standard model – frequent changes: lengths, sleeves, collar/hood, colours/textures, closure systems, accessories.
