Furmark

Furmark® is the comprehensive global certification and traceability system for natural fur that guarantees animal welfare and environmental standards.

It encompasses a number of individual certification programmes. Each programme has a specific, independently-developed science-based protocol or standard. The respective programmes are then subject to third-party assessment and certified by a recognised certification body.

The certification system itself also includes a traceability component (accessible to the consumer) and a quality mark (indicating certification).

Furmark® products are traceable, verified, and guaranteed to have met recognised standards. With Furmark®, stages of the supply chain is subject to certification, third-party assessment, and traceability.

Through Furmark®, consumers are assured that every stage of the value chain has undergone rigorous controls and complies with global operational standards.

How does it work?

Each Furmark® certified coat has a unique code, and when this code is entered on the Furmark.com website, the consumer can see the origin of the furs, the auction where they were traded, the location where they were dressed and dyed, and the workshop or brand that manufactured the product.

Furmark® certified farms adhere to animal welfare standards that have been scientifically determined by researchers, and the tanneries and locations where the furs are processed must comply with SafeFur Chemical standards, which ensure that substances used in the treatment process are safe for the environment and people.

To obtain certification, manufacturers undergo an inspection conducted by FACT and can only receive the title if they are approved by this regulatory body.

Only farms that meet the scientifically determined and program-recognized animal welfare standards can be included in Furmark®, and furs that do not come from certified farms cannot be traded on the auction. Once the fur is purchased from the auction, it must be dressed and dyed. Tanneries must comply with SafeFur Chemical standards, ensuring that substances and processes used in treatment do not harm the environment and people.

Subsequently, for a manufacturer to obtain certification, they must pass an inspection conducted by FACT, during which key points are analyzed and evaluated. Only manufacturers who receive approval are entered into the ChainPoint system, where all stages of production for a fur article are recorded.

Production Chain

Through Furmark®, every stage of the production chain is verified, evaluated, and introduced into the monitoring system.
