Fur Cleaning (Fur SPA)

Fur SPA is a chemo-thermal-mechanical process that includes cleaning and controlled degreasing, rehydration, odor removal, specialized “ironing” of the fur for finishing, and shine reactivation — without harsh substances for people or the environment. Suitable for mink, fox, lynx, sable, chinchilla, and other premium furs.

By “ironing” the hair (with specialized equipment (NOT A HOUSEHOLD IRON OR STEAMING STATIONS)), worn tips are removed, the matted/greasy look is eliminated, and volume and a fluffy appearance are restored. Specialized cleaning for fur garments brings back the natural sheen, while the lining is sanitized. Recommended once every 2–5 years, depending on fur type and color, the garment’s cut, and the wearer’s makeup/skincare habits.

Fur SPA price: 600–750 RON*
Lining replacement price: 600–1000 RON* (excluding the lining fabric cost)

* Products purchased in-store receive a 20% discount on services.

Who it’s for

If the piece has lost its sheen, looks matted with greasy hair, has flattened volume, or shows visually dirty areas (especially on light-colored furs), professional cleaning is the first step. For light-colored furs, the recommended interval is shorter — around 2 years — because they look dirty faster visually. If you wear your coat rarely, periodic cleaning is still worth it to keep the fur in good condition. Sometimes cleaning is needed when foreign, non-specific odors appear (mold, frying/cooking, food, etc.).

Very delicate furs (e.g., chinchilla) require special procedures. We choose the right method after inspection to protect the material and achieve the expected aesthetic result.

Our 6-step process

  1. Assessment – we identify the fur type, the garment’s condition, and any defects or issues.
  2. Removal of buttons or decorative elements. Any button or decorative element must be removed before cleaning.
  3. Dedicated transport – because Fur SPA is not performed in Romania, we organize a dedicated shipment once every 3–5 weeks. All garments are transported with our own vehicles, hung on hangers to prevent creasing.
  4. Dedicated Fur SPA treatment – cleaning and rehydration, specialized treatment, and gentle perfuming adapted to the material.
  5. Return transport and reattachment of accessories – upon return from cleaning, garments are inspected, any small tears or open seams are re-stitched, and buttons or accessories are reattached*
  6. Handover – joint verification and care/storage recommendations.

Transparency: if repairs are needed or if there are many accessories to remove/reattach before or after cleaning, we clearly communicate options and costs.

Prices, duration, and recommended frequency

  • Fur SPA: 600–900 RON • 5–30 days*
  • Lining replacement: per estimate depending on complexity**
  • Cleaning + repairs combined: offer after evaluation

*depending on fur type and length.
**depending on the style, length, and other elements (slits, ruffles, etc.)

Frequency: annually for heavy use; every 2–5 years depending on type and color for moderate use. Very light-colored furs may require more frequent care if you use foundation around the neckline.

Note: if you haven’t worn your natural fur coat or jacket for many years, cleaning is worth it to restore a like-new, fluffy appearance and remove any foreign odors.

Short case studies

Dark mink, moderate use – matte sheen, matted with a greasy-hair look, stale/storage odor, lining matted. After Fur SPA, the fur regained its shine, fluffy volume, and like-new appearance. It no longer sheds. The lining was sanitized.

Light fox, flattened volume – improper storage. Cleaning + rehydration + finishing; volume visibly reactivated. Time: 5 days. Recommendation: wide hanger, NO textile/plastic cover.

Wrinkled chinchilla, stained with foundation – specific treatment, like-new appearance. Recommendation: store on a wide hanger in a wardrobe or dressing area with sufficient space on the rack.

Care guide after cleaning

  • Store on a wide hanger, with NO cover of any kind, in an airy space, away from sunlight or UV light sources.
  • Avoid perfumes, solvents, and any liquid applied to the fur, leather, or lining.
  • Air-dry naturally if the coat gets wet from snow, away from heat sources, in a ventilated place, away from light.
  • Do not wear fur garments in heavy rain.
  • Avoid long-term compression in very crowded closets. We recommend keeping at least 15 cm between hangers, measured along the rack bar.
  • Do not hang your fur coat on a coat hook even if it has a loop. Always use a wide hanger.

If you notice “worn” fur tips or weakened seams, schedule a quick visit for repairs.

Fur SPA methodology – technical details

Professional cleaning for natural fur does not mean strong detergents or prolonged soaking. We use a controlled sequence of steps that respects the fiber’s characteristics and how the panels are assembled in the cut. The goal is sanitizing, shine reactivation, and volume refresh — without stiffening or degrading the material.

  • Controlled degreasing – removes environmental deposits and buildup around the neck/cuffs without “dehydrating” the fiber.
  • Rehydration – restores elasticity; the fur regains its natural drape and lively look.
  • Gentle mechanical finishing – directional brushing and specialized “ironing” for worn tips.
  • Lining sanitization – improved thermal and tactile comfort; optional lining replacement.

The exact scheme depends on the fur type (mink, fox, lynx, sable, chinchilla), age, and wearing habits. Before starting, we perform a visual and tactile inspection and note any area that needs special attention.

Common myths and risks

“I can clean it at home with universal solutions.” Avoid. Unsuitable solvents dull the sheen and dry the fiber; some leave films that are hard to reverse. “If I brush hard, the volume comes back.” Aggressive brushing pulls out hairs or breaks the tips. “Dry it next to a radiator.” Direct heat stiffens and can deform the panels.

Any rushed improvisation complicates later professional intervention. If you have a stain or odor, stop wearing the piece and send it for evaluation.

Guide by fur type

Mink – versatile and durable; responds well to rehydration and fine finishing. Fox – volume-focused; treatments aim to restore “air” in the fur. Lynx – distinctive pattern; worked in segments. Sable – luxurious texture, sensitive to temperature; we allow extra time for finishing. Chinchilla – very delicate; we apply only gentle procedures with frequent checks.

Depending on color and density, we recommend different care frequencies (very light pieces = more frequent cycles).
